According to NASA, space weather is the dynamic conditions in the Earth’s outer space environment. It includes any event on the sun, in the solar wind, in near-Earth space and in our upper atmosphere that can affect the performance and reliability of space-borne and ground-based technological systems and through these, human life and endeavor.
As society becomes increasingly dependent on space-based systems, it is vital to understand how space weather, caused by solar variability, could affect, among other things, space systems and human space flight, electric power transmission, high-frequency radiocommunications, global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals, as well as the well-being of passengers in high altitude aircraft.
Some of the solar effects on Earth
Solar activities associated with Space Weather can be divided into four main components, which can have different impacts on Earth:
DSCOVR (Deep Space Climate Observatory) is an American space weather station developed in partnership with NASA, NOAA, and the U.S. Air Force, that monitors changes in the solar wind, providing space weather alerts and forecasts for geomagnetic storms that could disrupt power grids, satellites, telecommunications, aviation, and GPS. DSCOVR orbits approximately 1.5 million km from Earth in a unique location called Lagrange point 1 (L1), the neutral gravity point between the Earth and Sun.
• Plasma-Magnetometer (PlasMag): Magnetometer and plasma sensor to measure solar wind properties for forecasting geomagnetic storms. The PlasMag instrument comprises a Faraday Cup (measures solar wind) and a Fluxgate Magnetometer, as well as two space weather instruments: the Electron Spectrometer and the Pulse Height Analyzer.

Today, 3 April 2023, the 8th IAA Planetary Defense Conference started in Vienna, Austria, taking place until 7 April as a hybrid conference with two venues.
The Vienna International Centre hosts the conference from 3-6 April, while the Austrian Academy of Sciences will host it on 7 April. The conference will cover a range of topics related to planetary defense, including ongoing and upcoming mission highlights, hypothetical asteroid threat exercise, key international and policy development, near-Earth object discovery and characterization, deflection and disruption modeling and testing, space mission and campaign design, impact effects and consequences, disaster management and impact response, public education and communications, and political, legal, social, and economic aspects.

La Oficina Regional de Apoyo (RSO) de ONU-SPIDER en Rumanía tiene su sede en la Agencia Espacial Rumana (ROSA). El acuerdo de cooperación entre ROSA y UNOOSA se firmó con ocasión de la 52ª COPUOS, el 4 de Junio de 2009.
Establecida en 1991, por la Decisión Gubernamental nº 923/ 20 Nov 1995, ROSA es una institución pública independiente.

The UN-SPIDER Regional Support Office (RSO) in Romania is hosted by the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA). The cooperation agreement between ROSA and UNOOSA was signed on occasion of the 52nd COPUOS, 4 June 2009.
Established in 1991, by the Government Decision no. 923/ 20 Nov 1995, ROSA is an independent public institution.
The mission of the Agency:
ROSA is authorized to establish research and development centres oriented on specific objectives of the Romanian Space Programme.read more
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) of Pakistan and the United Nations Office of Outer space Affairs (UNOOSA) signed the cooperation agreement on the establishment of a UN-SPIDER Regional Support Office (RSO) on the occasion of the 47th Scientific and Technical Subcommittee sessions on 12 February 2010.
SUPARCO, the national space agency, was established in 1961 as a Committee and was granted the status of a Commission in 1981. SUPARCO is mandated to conduct R&D in space science, space technology, and their peaceful applications in the country. It works towards developing indigenous capabilities in space technology and promoting space applications for socio-economic uplift of the country.
